Virtual 5K Race Raises Thousands for AAFSW Crisis Fund

Congratulations, Foreign Service runners and walkers around the globe! Thanks to your participation in the Around the World Virtual 5K Race/Walk, $2,494 has been raised for the AAFSW Crisis Fund.

The Crisis Fund was established in December 2015 to provide help to Foreign Service family members in crisis (especially during a separation or after a divorce). Our Crisis Support Committee and Foreign-Born Spouse Group have sometimes seen Foreign Service family members living in shelters and even in their cars during a crisis. The Fund provides short-term financial assistance to family members in need.

According to Leah Evans, who spearheaded the fundraising effort, 38 posts and 371 individuals participated. Team members included Foreign Service employees and family members as well as local employees. Individual donations ranged from $10 to $300. Our star post is Taipei, Taiwan, which raised $495 for the Fund.

So far a total of $2,494 was raised for the Around the World 5K Race/Walk–and donations are still coming in. This brings the total amount raised for the Crisis Fund to $3,729.
