AAFSW’s Art and BookFair (ABF)

AAFSW board members and volunteers at the BookFair in a previous year.

AAFSW’s annual Art and BookFair takes place in the new National Museum of American Diplomacy, located on the lower level of the remodeled 21st St entrance to the Department of State. Thousands of used books, art objects, jewelry, paintings, collectibles, stamps, and coins are available. Some carpets and textiles as well. All items are donated by Foreign Service families and friends of AAFSW who have traveled overseas. It’s a wonderful place to shop for unusual and unique gifts.

There is a wide range of books from architecture to zoology and many subjects in between. Collector’s Corner has special books of greater value. For philatelists, the Stamp Corner is just the place to go. Every year is different and exciting.

Admission is free, and the public is invited on both weekends. Books are half-price on the last two days.

The proceeds from the Art and BookFair go to a number of worthy causes–scholarships for Foreign Service and Civil Service students, continuing education scholarships for spouses and partners, Foreign Service projects such as the Foreign Service Youth Foundation, and other community projects. Over the years, the AAFSW has given away over a million dollars.

An event like this cannot happen without the assistance of many volunteers!
