In Memoriam: Savannah T. Walker

Our wonderful friend Savannah T. Walker, widow of the late Ambassador Julius W. Walker, died on December 26, 2018, in her home in Chevy Chase, MD. Many members of the AAFSW have known her over the five or six decades she participated in AAFSW activities, lending a helping hand at the BookFair, and opening her home several times a year to friends in the AAFSW Groupe de Conversation française (known informally as “our French conversation group”) to discuss and appreciate books written in French. She also played bridge regularly and enthusiastically with members at DACOR-Bacon House. Savannah will be remembered fondly for her sense of humor and dry wit, spoken in a distinctive Southern lilt.

Savannah joined a philanthropic educational sorority known as P.E.O. in 1985 and remained an active and loyal member. She transferred to a different chapter in Washington, DC when her chapter, AD, disbanded. Her daughter LuLen was also a member and recipient of a low-interest student loan from P.E.O. to support her MA studies at GWU.

Yours sincerely, representing our French Conversation Group and Dacorians,
