This year, Foreign Affairs Day was celebrated on Friday, May 3, 2019 at the US Department of State. Many Foreign Service community members got together and exchanged ideas on the current state of diplomacy and foreign affairs.

Major General Jacques Paul Klein was awarded the Foreign Service Cup by DACOR. Many informative seminars took place on International Development, European and Asian Affairs, African and Western Hemisphere Affairs, Diplomatic Security, and more.

AFSA Memorial Ceremony – May 3, 2019.

During the Foreign Affairs Lunch, Judy Ikels was awarded the Director General’s Cup for the Civil Service while the Director General’s Cup for the Foreign Service was awarded to Ambassador Brownfield. Ambassador Shannon, who gave an inspirational speech, was the Foreign Affairs Day luncheon keynote speaker in the Benjamin Franklin Room.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo addressed the Foreign Affairs community and, together with AFSA President Barbara Stephenson, honored the fallen Foreign Service Officers at the AFSA Memorial Ceremony, which took place in the afternoon.

Foreign Affairs Council Members: Ambassador Boyatt (American Academy of Diplomacy), Dr. Athanasopoulos Owen (AAFSW President), Ambassador Harrop (Chairman of Diplomacy Center Foundation), FSYF President Naland honor the fallen Foreign Service Family Members by the AAFSW plaque and wreath.

Shortly after that, members of the Foreign Affairs Council: Ambassador Boyatt (American Academy of Diplomacy), Dr. Athanasopoulos Owen (AAFSW President), Ambassador Harrop (Chairman of Diplomacy Center Foundation), and FSYF President Naland honored the fallen Foreign Service family members by the AAFSW plaque and wreath at the C Street Lobby.
