FEARLESS YOUNG IRANIAN WOMEN UPRISE

IN THE BURNS AUDITORIUM AT THE STATE DEPARTMENT

January 17, 11:00 AM East Coast Time

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the AAFSW I take this opportunity to wish you wish you a very Happy, Healthy and Successful New Year 2023.

The New Year will usher in calls for change around the world. AAFSW will start the programs with a very informative and timely presentation entitled ”Fearless Young Iranian Women Uprise.”

Please join us on  January 17 at 11:00 AM in the Burns Auditorium in the State Department for a presentation by Mrs. Shahin Maffi, founder and CEO of Home Health Connection, Inc. (HHC), Persian TV Producer/Humans Right activist Mr. Parsa A. Sorbi, Mardom TV USA, and Human Rights Activist Mrs. Sayareh Amir.

Fearless young women in Iran are leading the way and inspiring the movement for freedom against an oppressive government under the Ayatollah Ali Khomeini.

The brave young women call for systemic change and for the Supreme Leader of the theocracy to step down.

This harsh government has controlled women under the law of the Hijab. Women who did not comply suffered severe consequences.

In 1979, there was a rebellion against the modernization of Iran which led to marginalization of the Iranian women.  The religious zealot, Ayatollah Khomeini, and his followers created an Islamic Republic.

In 1981, women were required to adhere to the Mandatory Hijab Law or suffer harsh punishment.

Fast forward to current events and women rejecting the treatment. The initial push back by young women got strong after a young woman and her brother visited Tehran. They were approached by the Morality Police. The young woman, Mahsa Amini, was viewed by her Morality Police capturers as she needed to get “re-educated” at a detention center.  Mahsa died there at the hands of the capturers the next day. The Morality Police deny the allegations.

Mahsa is now a code word that carries meaning for all women.

What started out as a rejection of forced compliance to wear the hijab has escalated to Iranian women and men protesting in the streets with a cry for toppling the government ruled by Ayatollah and put an end to the Islamic Republic.

These young fearless women have made a huge impact for change.

Please purchase your tickets below by January 12.

The cost is $15.00 per person for non-members and $10.00 for AAFSW members (final cost includes a small processing fee).

Please come to entrance at 21st Street NW of the State Department at approximately 10:45 AM.  As you enter, rather than reporting to the main desk, please go to the table (usually to your right) where we will be waiting to escort you.

The program presentation begins at 11:00 AM and ends at approximately 1:00 PM.

I look forward to seeing you.

Sheila Switzer, AAFSW Program Chair
