AAFSW Thanksgiving Celebration with a Tripartite Musical Program

Members of District5.

AAFSW invites you to celebrate Thanksgiving on Tuesday, November 24 with a wonderful musical performance at 10:30 a.m. in the George Marshall Auditorium at the State Department featuring a renowned Russian violinist Rafael Javadov and the superb wind quintet District5: Laura Kaufman, flute; Alison Lowell, oboe; Nina Elhassan, clarinet; Eddie Rumzis, bassoon; Laura Brisson, horn.

In addition we will hear from the distinguished Spanish Maestro Angel Gil-Ordóñez, the Music Director/Conductor of PostClassical Ensemble in Washington DC, Principal Guest Conductor of New York’s Perspectives Ensemble, and Music Director of the Georgetown University Orchestra in DC, who will present a brief illustrated lecture, “Perspective in Music and Art,” about twenty-first century orchestras.

The violinist Rafael Javadov.

Rafael Javadov is a violinist with an expansive repertoire that includes classical, popular, and folk songs from around the globe. His most recent performances include electric world music played at international cultural and political events in the Washington, DC area, including festivals and special programs at the Reagan Center for International Trade, the State Department, the Russian Cultural Center, and the Embassy of Italy.

District5 specializes in contemporary works and original transcriptions, creating unique experiences that depart from the standard concert format. By combining innovation with musical integrity, their imaginative interpretations seek to heighten the audience’s emotional connection to the music. With the US premiere of Karlheinz Stockhausen’s ROTARY Woodwind Quintet already to their credit, this emerging wind quintet continues to produce one-of-a-kind performances.

This will be a great event not to be missed!

RSVP by Friday, November 20 to office@aafsw.org or 703-820-5420. There is no charge for this program.
