A Fun Time of Year for the Foreign-Born Spouses Group

The Foreign-Born Spouses group was very active at the end of the year! We had an Afghan culture visit to the Zamani gallery. Afghanistan is a vast country and as a result, has a rich mix of ethnicities and tribes. We learned the process of making some of the minority crafts, carpets, clothing, shoes, and more. The embroidery is mainly done by women and girls and the design mainly depends on the region and family.

We also saw beautiful ceramic made using the precious stone lapis lazuli while we were serenaded by the national instrument of Afghanistan — the rubab. To end our afternoon, we tasted Afghan food and enjoyed a wonderful cup of tea.

Did you know that pomegranate skin is used as a natural color for carpets?

We hope you can join us at future events!
