Transportation Options in the DMV
Bicycle Subsidy
- The maximum bicycle subsidy is $20/month. The Commuter page lists trails in the NRC.
- Learn more about bike rack and shower locations at Cycling to Work.
- Learn more about transit benefits, such as SmartBenefits, at the Transit Subsidy Program.
- Participants can designate their SmartBenefits to auto pay for monthly commuting costs through the metro, vanpool, and/or commuter buses.
- Increasingly, ride-matching services are becoming available that can match drivers and riders for individual trips, not just every-day commutes.
Parking
- Learn more about free scooter and motorcycle decals, after-hours parking permits, carpool permits, and more at the Parking Program SharePoint.
- Driving into the office? Consider using commercial parking options, or apps such as Park Mobile or SpotHero for short-term parking.
- Bureaus receive a number of individual parking allocations for Department facilities an designate which direct-hire staff may receive them. In 2020 and 2021, bureau allocations increased. Accessibility parking.
Bureaus have the flexibility to reassign these allocations at any time to meet their mission needs. The Parking Program is gathering daily data on facility use to determine whether the increased allocations have maximized parking use once the “new normal” is reached, or whether additional permits can be allocated
