sandy-taylorSandy Taylor is currently Diplomatic Liaison chair of the Welcome to Washington International Club, and President of the Young Musical Scholars Foundation. She is a member of The Association of American Foreign Service Worldwide, and also volunteers at the White House.

Born in China and raised in Taiwan, she has since resided in the U.S., Taiwan, Japan and Australia. Sandy has completed the Harvard Kennedy School’s Governance as Leadership program and is currently a member of the Harvard Alumni DC Chapter. She managed the employee support operation for the American Institute in Taiwan, and as Country Director for Pearl S. Buck International’s Taiwan office, she directed her talents toward helping others, staging fund-raising galas, art auctions for earthquake relief and other philanthropic causes in Taiwan.

As a result of successful fundraising to rebuild a hospital damaged in the 1999 earthquake, she was invited to the Vatican to meet Pope John Paul II and participate in an hour-long Vatican radio show about the earthquake relief project. She also took part in the White House welcome ceremony for Pope Francis in September 2015. During her employment as British Trade and Cultural Office Assistant Director in 1997, she coordinated all events for a visit to Taiwan by former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

Since returning to the United States in 2000, Sandy has concentrated on assisting promising and needy young musical students by raising funds and granting scholarships through the Young Musical Scholars Foundation, as well as promoting international fellowship and understanding through Welcome Clubs International and past participation in the Capital Speakers Club. Throughout her career, she has enjoyed working for and has supported the nonprofit community. Some of her most fun and cherished memories are from several years of working with disadvantaged people in Taiwan; teaching English to grade school students, helping single mothers learn employment skills, and establishing a program to teach purchased foreign brides Chinese language so they could better fit into their new society.

Sandy has been married over 45 years to Patrick, who is retired from Federal Civil Service as well as from the Boeing Company. They have two grown daughters.
