The Associates of the American Foreign Service Worldwide (AAFSW) cordially invites you to join us on Tuesday, April 25, at 10:45 a.m. in the Dean Acheson Auditorium of the State Department in Washington, D.C. for an interesting presentation by His Excellency Leonidas Pantelides, PhD. The title of the presentation is “What led to the Challenges that Cyprus is facing with the reunification talks.” A question-and-answer session will follow.

Biography of Ambassador Pantelides

Ambassador Pantelides presented credentials as Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the United States of America on June 27, 2016.

First Deputy Permanent Secretary/Director of Middle East and North Africa Division. Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nicosia, 2013 to 2016

Ambassador/Permanent Representative of the Republic of Cyprus to the United Nations at Geneva, 2011 to 2013

Head of the Diplomatic Office of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, 2008 to 2011

Ambassador to the Russian Federation with parallel accreditations to Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Belarus, 2004 to August 2008

Ambassador to Greece with parallel accreditations to Albania, Bulgaria and Romania, 2001 to 2004

Ambassador to Sweden with accreditations to Iceland, Norway, Latvia and Denmark, 1998 to 2001

Director, Office of the Foreign Minister, 1997 to 1998

Ambassador Pantelides studied Philosophy and holds a PhD from the Interdisciplinary Studies Department of the University of Kent, Canterbury, England (1983). The subject of his doctoral dissertation was the concept of time.

He published a book on philosophy (2003). He also wrote a number of articles on various philosophical, political and cultural subjects. He is a regular public speaker.

He has taught International Affairs as a part-time professor and is a member of the Advisory Board of the Diplomatic Academy, University of Nicosia.
