Obituary: Guido Fenzi

We are sorry to announce the death of Guido Fenzi on January 2, 2017. For thirty years a Foreign Service Officer, Guido became a renowned expert and author on numismatics. He was frequently helpful in identifying and valuing coins donated to the AAFSW Book Fair.

A valued volunteer at the Numismatics Department of the Smithsonian, Guido created a catalogue raisonnee, teaching himself Cyrillic to research their Russian coin collection, about which he later published a book.

He is survived by his wife, Jewell, who edited the AAFSW newsletter and created the Oral History project, taping interviews with dozens of Foreign Service wives. This valuable archives is now online at the Library of Congress at “frontline diplomacy.”
