AAFSW and the Diplomatic and Consular Officers Retired (DACOR) invite you to a co-sponsored luncheon program featuring Bulgarian Ambassador to the United States, Elena Poptodorova.
Ambassador Poptodorova will present a talk on “How can U.S.-Bulgarian relations be improved by increased cultural and academic relations.”
Prior to her appointment in Washington, Ambassador Poptodorova was Director of the Security Policy Directorate at the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In the period 2008 – 2009 she served as Ambassador-at-Large for the Black Sea Region. From 2002 to 2008 she was Bulgaria’s Ambassador to the United States of America, during which Bulgaria became a member of NATO and the EU. Prior to becoming Ambassador to the US, she served as Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Director of the Human Rights and International Humanitarian Organizations Directorate.
Ms Poptodorova earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at the Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia, Bulgaria in English and Italian linguistic and literary studies, after which she attended a post-graduate course in international relations at the University of National and World Economy. She specialized at the Leeds University, UK and the University of Siena, Italy. She is a board member of several Bulgarian nongovernmental organizations such as: the Atlantic Club of Bulgaria, the Centre for Regional and Geopolitical Research, and the Bulgarian Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association, which she currently chairs.

The cost of the program is $25 which includes lunch and wine. The reception will include a cash bar.
