AAFSW BookRoom Manager, Martine Aya Nakpil, takes 1st Place in Martial Arts Competition

On Saturday, May 20, 2017, our AAFSW BookRoom Manager, Martine Aya Nakpil, competed and took first place in Taekwondo Competition at the Walker Jones Education Campus, Washington, DC

Martine’s favorite hobby is martial arts and, namely, Taekwondo. Martine has been practicing Taekwondo for the last five years in Rockville, Maryland at the US White Tiger Martial Arts Center. She first started practicing along with her middle son, Sim, after her older son had already been practicing for at least two years. All three are now First and Second Degree Black Belts.

On Saturday, May 20th, 2017, AAFSW President, Dr. Joanna Athanasopoulos Owen, went to the Walker Jones Education Campus in Washington, DC to see Martine and her son, Sim, compete in the Korean Consul General Championship. This was Martine’s second tournament. Martine’s son did great; he came up in second place and got a big trophy. Martine herself came up in first place and also received a spectacular trophy, which she accepted with a big smile!

Well done to both Sim and Martine! They are both very happy they competed. It is always a great experience to put one’s learning into practice and gain knowledge from all the other competitors as well.
