AAFSW Bids Farewell and Celebrates June Birthdays

On Thursday, June 6, 2019, many AAFSW members and friends gathered together to enjoy the beginning of summer! We also bid farewell and wished well to our AAFSW members who are going on to their next post. All of us together also celebrated the June birthdays of some of our AAFSW members.

This beautiful lunch took place on a wonderful summer-like day and we enjoy the presence of and a special performance by a surprise guest: Grammy Award Winner Gospel Singer Marvin Matthews. Mr. Matthews honored AAFSW with amazing gospel music and songs such as One Day at a Time and Amazing Grace. He also helped us all sing Happy Birthday!

During this lunch, we bid farewell to Yolanda Macias-Cottrell, as she is leaving us for her new post. Yolanda was our Secretary of State Award for Outstanding Volunteerism Abroad (SOSA) Chair (2017-2019) and she did a fabulous job managing this very important program. We send her off to her new post with AAFSW’s very best wishes and gratitude for all her hard volunteer work and dedication.

AAFSW also celebrated June birthdays, including Troella Tyznik’s birthday. Troella is a dedicated AAFSW volunteer who never stops in her quest to help AAFSW where and when needed. This time, Troella amazed all of us with a delicious birthday cake made using pure nut flower, which we all enjoyed!

AAFSW wishes to thank our wonderful hostess for offering her house to host this summer event, our AAFSW Program Chair Sheila Switzer, and her husband Tom Switzer, as well as Mr. Matthews for his uplifting performance!

Happy summer to all our AAFSW members and volunteers!
