Reviews of Washington DC Corporate Apartments

Bridgestreet at Regent's Park

Review Number One

Review Number One

Reviewed by Kelly Bembry Midura, State Department spouse.

When did you stay at the apartment? For how long?

July, 2002 for 16 days.

What were the advantages of staying at the complex?

We were very satisfied with our choice. The complex is located easy walking distance from the Vienna Metro, and about 1/2 mile from I-66 on the corner of Lee Highway and Nutley Street. The 2-bedroom apartment was very large, exceptionally clean, and quiet. It had a well equipped, full-size kitchen and full-sized washer and dryer. There is garage parking right by the door. A pool and a small fitness center are available.

Bridgestreet was the only corporate housing company that we could find in the Washington DC area that would rent affordably for less than 30 days. As were only on per diem for 3 nights, but had to stay in the area for at least two weeks, this was very important to us!

What were the disadvantages?

The only disadvantage was that the actual entrance to the apartment building is inside the parking garage. It was very hard for the pizza guy, taxis or friends to find us. There is also only one television in the apartment, but as far as we were concerned, this was an advantage.

Is this a good place to stay with children? Are the schools, play areas, etc. acceptable?

Short-term, it was GREAT place to stay with kids. There is large, well-maintained pool open 10-8 every day with a lifeguard on duty. There were some open areas where they could play, as well as a wooded path where one could ride a bike or scooter (we didn't have those with us) There is a small tot lot for little kids. There are a good number of kids living in the complex, and there were always some in the pool when we went.

Can you get by without a car at this complex? With just one car?

Yes, you can. The Metro is 5 minutes away on residential streets, so even walking there with kids is no problem. The Pan-Am shopping center, with a Safeway, a CVS, and a McDonald's, among other delights, is about a 10-minute walk away, but for that you have to cross Lee Highway. Before we got a car, we brought some groceries back on foot pretty easily.

Do the rental rates fall within per diem? For how long?

We paid $165 per night, tax included, for a 2-bedroom, 2 and 1/2 bath apartment. That would fall within per diem for at least a month, I expect.

Do you have any specific advice for people who will be staying at this complex? Are some buildings more desirable than others, for example?

Be VERY careful about leaving your parking pass in clear view! The complex is exceptionally strict about parking due to being so close to the Vienna Metro, no doubt. We still don't know what happened to our pass--it seems to have disappeared into thin air--but our car got towed the night before we flew out!

When did you stay at the apartment? For how long?

October-November 2002, for 33 days total.

What were the advantages of staying at the complex?

Convenient to Metro (Vienna), which can be reached on foot, as well as I-66. It is also close to Tysons Corner, which can be reached in 10-15 minutes. As also noted by the previous reviewer, there is a Safeway, CVS drugstore and a variety of restaurants and retail stores at the nearby at the Pan Am Shopping center.

The apartments are nice and well-maintained, and are equiped with washer/drier.

What were the disadvantages?

Distance to Washington DC. Also, Bridgestreet (the company through which we rented the apartment) does not seem to know what the apartments look like. They can tell you how well equiped and furnished they are, but are not able to give you details about size and exact location within the complex. Some apartments are rather difficult to find. When you pick up you rental packet at the leasing office, make sure to ask for directions to your apartment. Also, the leasing office is only open during regular business hours, plus a few hours on the weekends. If you arrive after hours, you cannot pick up your keys. Bridgestreet failed to mention this.

Is this a good place to stay with children? Are the schools, play areas, etc. acceptable?

The facilities seem adequate. There are two swimming pools as well as a small playground in the complex. However since we stayed at Regent's Park during the winter, and have an infant child, we did not use any of these facilities.

Can you get by without a car at this complex? With just one car?

You can get by without a car or with just one car. The supermarket is well within walking distance (10 minutes at most); so is the Vienna metro station. However, there is little else you can do within walking distance except go grocery shopping and take the metro.

Do the rental rates fall within per diem? For how long?

Yes, they do. We paid $120.00 a day (which included a $2 a day charge for high-speed internet).

Do you have any specific advice for people who will be staying at this complex? Are some buildings more desirable than others, for example?

If you have small children, ensure that you get an apartment on the first or second floor. Some buildings are on a hill and above a parking garage, and climbing to the third or fourth floor can be quite a challenge when carrying a baby or toddler and groceries.

While Regent's Park offers a comfortable and convenient stay in the Washington DC area, Bridgestreet (a corporate housing broker that sublets units within the complex) is a less than ideal host for families in authorized or ordered departure status. Although our Bridgestreet representative claimed to understand the need to rent on a month-to-month basis, saying that we only needed to let them know at the earliest opportunity if we would be extending our stay each month, we were forced to relocate after the first 30 days after Bridgestreet returned our unit to Regent's Park without informing us. Being forced to move in the middle of an already taxing evacuation was a stressful experience that evoked little concern or consideration from our Bridgestreet contact. Although the company did try to find us a unit within Regents Park, it was unsuitable, being located some five flights up (without an elevator) from street parking, and lacking some of the ameneties we paid for (garage parking, cable TV).
